This speaking rubric is WIDA aligned and editable. There are so many ways you can use this with newcomer activities and intermediate activities.
This speaking checklist was created to help students understand what is expected when they are speaking with others. The speaking checklists have three dimensions (parts) and six proficiency levels (1-Entering, 2-Emerging, 3-Developing, 4-Expanding, 5-Bridging, and 6-Reaching).
There are many ways that you can use this speaking checklist. Below are a few suggestions:
Student Self Assessments – After an assignment, students can use the speaking checklist to evaluate themselves.
Peer Review – Students can review peers with the checklists during speaking assignments, presentations, readers theater, and any assignment that involves talking.
Informal Assessments – While students are doing group work and/or talk time, teachers can circulate and use the speaking checklists to assess the students.
