Description

This PBL over emotions is an excellent way for your student(s) to consider their most dominant and leading emotions and to create strategies for coping with them when they are most intense. It is great for a unit over psychology or for social-emotional learning (specifically teaching emotional intelligence and self-awareness).

In the movie Inside Out, Riley has five leading emotions that control her throughout the day. Because of our unique personalities, our DNA, and the way we are raised, every person has different emotions that they experience more often; I call these our "leading emotions". In this PBL, your students must consider the 5 emotions they experience the most, create at least 2 strategies for coping with each one, and design a character that represents how that emotion feels. At the end, they will get to create a product that shows their characters. They will present their characters and their ideas to the class, and the class can discuss how this knowledge can make them better friends and classmates.

In this packet, I have included:
1) Lesson plan with standards & additional links
2) Brainstorming sheet (for design & coping strategies)
3) Product choice sheet
4) Scoring rubric
