What educators are saying

I used this to talk about figurative language in songs the students like -- a way that students enjoy. This allowed me to introduce a lot of figurative language vocabulary before we began doing our "coming of age" unit full of short stories, articles, and novel study.

Description

Students will select from a variety of pre-selected songs geared toward the "Coming of Age" and "Value of Work" unit. With a partner, they will explore and analyze the lyrics to find theme, symbols, figurative language, and more. Then, they will create an album cover representing their analysis. This lesson will take 1 hour, however, it can be extended into another day (included with directions).

This includes:

>Written directions for students for the {Guided Portion} {Song Analysis} {Album Cover} {Extension Activity}

>7 pre-selected (edited) lyrics to songs from various genres

>Rubric for the final product

>Word Document File so you are able to easily edit to suit your classroom needs

Students love being able to connect to songs they know, developing a deeper meaning, and integrating art all at the same time.
