College Literacy Course Outline and Syllabus

This was an elective I taught to 12th grade seniors. The semester was divided into 2 main units. The first focused on helping students prepare for college by writing the college essay, preparing for the SAT, note taking skills, etc. The 2nd unit focused on reading at the college level. The class consisted mostly of former ELLs and struggling readers, but this course could be taught to any high school students.

College Literacy Course Outline
The outline includes an overview and a detailed description of the 2 units, including essential questions and the Common Core Standards.

College Literacy Syllabus
The syllabus includes a brief course description, overview of activities, grading policy (divided into formative versus summative assessment), as well as what is required of students, my make up work policy, and expectations.

I was required to (and did) have both items approved by the administrators at my school at the beginning of the semester\school year.
