Description
This was an elective I taught to 12th grade seniors. The semester was divided into 2 main units. The first focused on helping students prepare for college by writing the college essay, preparing for the SAT, note taking skills, etc. The 2nd unit focused on reading at the college level. The class consisted mostly of former ELLs and struggling readers, but this course could be taught to any high school students.
The outline includes an overview and a detailed description of the 2 units, including essential questions and the Common Core Standards. I was required to (and did) have this approved by the administrators at my school at the beginning of the semester\school year.
