Chemistry CER Write Up Project on Ocean Acidification

Utilize this resource to challenge your students to use their chemistry knowledge to discuss real world problems. The project includes instructions and a detailed rubric of Claim, Evidence, Reasoning (CER) writing. I also included "Reasoning Guiding Questions" since students traditionally struggle with the Reasoning portion of CER.

IDEAS FROM MY CLASS

In my classroom, each unit is taught through a real-world phenomenon that connects each lesson, called the "big picture". Leading up to this project we did a Carbon Dioxide Lab, Mollusk Lab, and attended a presentation on the issue of Ocean Acidification from a local college. Students completed this project to demonstrate their ability to make connections and use the data from our labs to provide evidence and reasoning pertaining to the big picture phenomena of Ocean Acidification.
