Description

This 19 page interactive lesson covers the background behind Chinese New Year, offers colorful photos, interactive maps and explanations, as well as Dragon Dance Music and the song Gong Xi. RHYTHMS IN THE SONG ARE: ta, titi, and tim ka. MELODY IN THE SONG ARE: low la, low ti, do, re, mi, fa.

HERE IS WHAT YOU GET:
*BACKGROUND (9 pages) including colorful photos and explanations of the holiday.
**DRAGON DANCE MUSIC (2 pages) for both the younger children and older. The younger child's page has no notation at all, but has icons of instruments and when they should be played. The older children's page includes rhythms "ta, titi, tika tika, ti tika, syncopa and rest" for various instruments, as well as a xylophone part.
***CHINESE to ENGLISH (1 page) translations that include the Chinese characters
****MELODY (2 pages) for the song Gong Xi uses pitches "la,-ti,-do-re-mi-fa" Tap on the pitch "ti" and it will light up making a gong sound. Select the incorrect pitch and the pages will yell "NOooooo".
*****RHYTHM (2 pages) for the song Gong Xi has children tapping the long short rhythms that turn into tim-kas.
******FULL SONG (2 pages)

For full effect, I recommend making a Chinese Dragon out of fabric and cardboard. The children LOVE creating the music and doing a dragon dance through the room.
