DESCRIPTION OF STUDENT PAGES:

This easy-to-use resource kept my students highly engaged in their learning as we worked on resources that centered around a camping theme. I have provided detailed notes and pictures for you that explain how I worked through these lessons with my kids.

Your students will begin the lesson discussing camping and filling out a graph that displays their experiences with camping. I have also provided a couple of suggestions for great videos that could further extend the concept of camping.

From here, as a class discussion you will talk about building a tent and what materials one would need to accomplish this. Students will then be provided with a worksheet where they will fill out some pre-building information. Once they have completed this, they can build their tents.

Once finished with the tents, we increased the rigor of our lesson by getting in small groups and asking questions about each child’s tent in the groups. Once this discussion was finished, kids were given a worksheet where they then wrote about their tent and what they would have done different if they could build the tent again.

To further extend our learning with this STEM activity, I provided a ten stick which we used to measure our tents and compare the heights of our friends tents against ours. Last, students were provided with a sheet to record their findings about the measurement of each tent.

My students absolutely LOVED doing this activity in my classroom. It was great to see them work together through each of the sections of the lesson.
