Are you ready to learn all about autumn with Brown Owl?

If so, this is the bundle for you!

Introduce key words with the I-Spy picture, flashcards and word cards.

E.g. I spy, with my little eye, something orange/brown/with 2 legs/hard ...

Once the children have guessed an object, put up the flashcard.

Alternatively put up the flashcards and see if they can find everything in the picture.

N.B. I have also included separate word and picture cards for matching activities.

Practise the key words with different games, a word search and wordmats:

PAIRS: Turn all the cards face down and mix them up. Take it in turns to turn over 2 cards. If you find a pair, you get another go. The winner is the player with the most pairs at the end.

DOMINOES: Match the words and the pictures. Can be played alone or in pairs.

I HAVE GOT ... WHO HAS GOT ...?: This game is played as a class. Shuffle hand out all the cards. The player with the first card begins and reads what is on their card. Whoever has the item that is asked for, e.g. Who has got the acrorn?, is up next and reads what is on their card. And so it goes on until the last card is played.

PEG CARDS: Look at the picture, choose the correct word.

WORDSEARCH: These wordsearches are differentiated.

Level 1: find the words in the list.

Level 2: find the words, fill in the missing vowels

Level 3: look at the pictures, find the words, write the words.

WORDMATS:

Can you remember how to write the key words?

Listen to your teacher and colour in the pictures, e.g. Colour the acorn brown.

Use the mat to play bingo!

Consolidate the words in a poem

Learn to read and recite Brown Owl's poem and then do a story walk to consolidate the vocabulary.

The poem is based on the I-spy picture. I like to read a verse and ask the children to locate the action in the picture.

I also recite the poem with lots of actions to help the children remember the language.
