Supporting Indigenous Resources and Reconciliation for Elementary School Students


This no-prep, learning resource explores the First Peoples' celestial perspective on the Big Dipper through the Kenyen'keha:ka (one of the Six Nations) traditional story of Big Bear. The traditional story used for this unit can be found at Strong Nations online store and the Apple Book version can be purchased here, at the Apple Store.

The story is a great support, but the unit can be completed without it.

Included are comprehension activities and video/audio learning links. The activities included are: Big Bear/Big Dipper seasonal star tracker, Summary, and Problem/Solution.

Differentiated versions of the star tracker are provided for the success of ALL learners.


This unit, complimented with other Kanyen'keha:ka Series Units are perfect for: class discussions, individual learning or independent/small group learning stations.
