Description

In this project, students will imagine they are starting their own business and craft an elevator pitch to introduce their business concept and explain what makes their business unique. An elevator pitch gets its name from the fact that the pitch should be short enough to share during an elevator ride (about 20-30 seconds). Additionally, they will create a business card that could be given at the conclusion of their pitch.

Provide students with the project instructions, pitch planner, and business card worksheet (both available in digital or print). Students will use the provided prompts to plan and construct their elevator pitches. Next, students will design a business card. This can be done by hand or digitally. For the digital version, I suggest using the free program Canva™. Canva™ is not required and you may utilize other programs to create the business card. Students can even design the business card in Google Slides™.

After students have had time to create their elevator pitches, assign partners and have students practice giving their pitches. You may do this with only one partner or you could set it up as a “speed dating” style activity where students rotate to give the pitch several times. After students have had the opportunity to practice, have them verbally share their pitch with you or the class. Use the Be an Entrepreneur Elevator Pitch + Business Card Grading Rubric (based on 50 points) to assess student work as they present.

The Be an Entrepreneur Elevator Pitch and Business Card project is best completed after your students have completed the FREE Be an Entrepreneur Idea Starter Kit to develop their business concept. This resource can standalone or accompany any of the other projects in the Be an Entrepreneur Simulation.

The Be an Entrepreneur Simulation was designed to make entrepreneurship realistic for high school business students with a fun and engaging start-up venture project. It evokes student interest, by having them apply their own strengths, knowledge, and passions to select a business concept that would be a good fit for them.
