Description

Do your students struggle with reading comprehension? Science of Reading is used to describe 5 components of reading instruction: phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. This Back to School book and activities is a great tool to help with all of these components as well as teach social emotional learning and how to be a good citizen.

Students may read the words, but not retain the information. This Back to School Quality Student Emergent Reader will solve that problem because it has real photos of vocabulary words that are thematic and help young students make better connections. There is also a simple song with the words so it helps students to retain the words and enjoy the story.

Just Revised with even more value! This book and teacher guide help students to read with comprehension. This Back to School reader and activities are all about behavior and social skills and it is now interactive so your students can write down the phonetic elements of the words in their black and white copies. I read it the first week of school to help set my classroom culture.

This resource is very creative! From the interactive book to the song, it will have lots of appeal to kids. It’s great for the beginning of the year or to reinforce positive behaviour at any time throughout the year. Thank you.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Extremely satisfied Teaching Mama

What a great resource for students to practice and learn vocabulary words around behavior! I love the behavior books that they can make and the teacher notes as well!

It is now formatted to print double-sided. If you do not have this technology, simply print as normal and staple together. The real photos are great for SPED and ESL students as well as emergent readers.

This Reader is perfect for teaching VOCABULARY for a study on social emotional learning. It is one of 4 books associated with our VOCABULARY calendar.

Your kids learn words QUALITY, SHARE, MANNERS, RESPONSIBLE, UNDERSTAND, KIND, LEARN, TEAM, QUIET and CITIZEN in a fun PIGGY BACK SONG format!

We like to introduce the words during morning meeting and have students pair share or turn and talk about these words because we use these words all through the year.

Sight Words that are used for the worksheets:

  • had
  • we
  • can
  • are
  • be
  • see
  • will
  • you
  • our
  • she

  • We have also added: word wall quality student vocabulary cards with the real photos from the book. I display them at the beginning of our unit on behavior and they help my students to make connections with how all the words relate to each other. There is a teacher guide on how to use the cards. The real photos have helped my ESL students to better understand the vocabulary words. They also like using them in the writing center. It helps them to stay on topic.

  • And differentiated worksheets where students put words in sentence order. There are sheets with 4 words and sheets with 6 words. Students practice handwriting when they copy the sentence, then they will illustrate the sentence and there is a bonus sentence or question at the bottom of each worksheet. I love using them in literacy centers during guided reading. I have also used them in my guided reading groups, especially when I first introduce how to complete the sheets. I enjoy the discussions we have when we are answering the questions. It builds critical thinking.

  • We have this in Boom Cards with audio on every page and includes phonics and a writing activity.
