Ancient Roman History - Roman Emperor Meme Assignment

Your ancient history students are really going to enjoy this!

This is a straight forward and easy to introduce assignment that channels students knowledge of memes towards the understanding of ancient history.

The task is for students to create two different memes on two different Roman Emperors. I provided a list of the most notable Roman Emperors as well as a very brief description of each. There is also a link on the assignment sheet to an online meme maker for the students to use. In addition to creating two memes students are to write a paragraph for each in which they explain their meme as well as discuss the history behind what they are displaying. A mark scheme is included to assess student memes and the paragraph explanations.

I also included two exemplar memes that I created relating to the emperors Romulus Augustulus and Hadrian.

Memes are a great way for students to demonstrate their knowledge in a fun and interesting manner. This assignment is also very suitable to remote learning as students would have a great time sharing their memes in a virtual classroom environment. The assignment is provided as a pdf.
