An embarrassment - ESL adult conversation in PowerPoint

An embarrassment is a two-hour adult ESL conversation lesson in PowerPoint format. It includes two lessons that discuss the reason for embarrassment, why we experience it, and techniques to deal with it. This lesson was created for ESL adults, but I have used it successfully with business classes and with high school students as well.

The lesson includes two PowerPoints in an editable PPT format, worksheets, and teacher’s notes.

People love discussing embarrassing situations that happened to them in the past because it’s cleansing. Even more fun is telling stories of embarrassing situations that happened to others, since, when we talk about the misfortune of others, we feel like we’ve dodged a bullet.

Most embarrassing situations have no cultural boundaries. We all seem to cringe at similar situations regardless of our state of origin. Many of us also share similar physical involuntary reactions like stammering, sweating, and blushing. This makes ‘embarrassment’ a great ESL subject that everyone can relate to.

This lesson is divided into two parts:

The first part - discusses why do we get embarrassed, the different types of embarrassments, and possible coping mechanisms.

The second part - students talk about their own embarrassing situations and rate them.
