Amazing Mayan Astronomy

This learning packet allows students to discover the extent and gain an appreciation for the ancient Maya's vast astronomical knowledge, gathered and documented without any telescopes or computers. The included activities first introduce students to the Maya numbering system. Next, students examine excerpts of the surviving Maya documents (Dresden Codex) to discover their eclipse and Venus table. Lastly, students examine solar and stellar orientations of a few of the Maya's buildings and temples.
