What educators are saying
Description
"Why do I need to know this" and "How will this help me when I graduate"
When students get to high school, sometimes teachers assume that they know how to do simple things like label an envelope, sign their name, fill out a check, search for job opportunities, pay a bill, or apply for a college, but the reality is, many of them do not. They may be well-versed in Algebra or the history of WWII, but they do not grasp the basic concepts of what it takes to live as an adult in our world.
This resource will help students refresh on things that they may have once learned but have long forgotten. It will also give students a chance to get a glimpse into adult life. Students will explore options for jobs and careers, schooling pathways, and the expenses and income that come along with both. Students will make discoveries about the cost of living, having a child, transportation, groceries, etc.
At the end of the unit, students will create a mock budget to see how their finances might be managed, and what may need to be prioritized.
This colorful, interactive workbook/graphic organizer allows students to engage in thought beyond their basic curriculum.
Expect this unit to take about 4-6 days. Students will need computer access to complete tasks. This unit is perfect for high school juniors and seniors.
