Abuse Awareness Unit

This listing is for a unit that covers the topic of abuse. Many types and aspects of abuse will be presented and explored using a variety of instructional methods. It typically takes me 18-20 forty-five minute periods to complete. Abuse is a heavy, but very important topic, and I try to do victims of abuse justice through this unit.

• Abuse in the Headlines assignment, printable and virtual
• Battered woman syndrome assignment, printable and virtual
• Jigsaw group activity - can be broken down into individual assignments if your student numbers won't work well with jigsaw
• A Child Called It chapter guides - both printable and virtual, and keys
• Intimate partner abuse podcast assignment
• Enough video worksheet

Additional Resources You Will Need to Get:

• At least one copy of A Child Called It, if you want to read each chapter aloud. A class set is helpful, or one for each student is best.
• The movie Enough with Jennifer Lopez. Currently, I do not see a free streaming version available.
• Students will need headphones if you want them to do the podcast assignment in class.
