Unit Overview
20th Century Medical Innovations is designed to be used as part of a Health Sciences course for high school students. The unit can also be used as part of a World History course as well, though it is heavy in medical science terminology and content as well as historical context.
This unit is a comprehensive unit that is CCSS Compliant in ELD and College and Career Readiness standards. The unit includes a variety of different learning experiences and includes student notebook pages (that can conceivable be uploaded digitally), Prezi lecture notes and student templates, digital media resources, and grading rubrics. Links are included in the unit.
Materials follow a general preview/vocabulary development/content knowledge/expository reading-researching skills/demonstration of knowledge format. Other than a culminating project, there is no formal assessment included with this unit.
Unit Warnings and Disclaimers
This unit also relies heavily on technology that you or your classroom may not have access to. Students will need access to presentation software and internet researching tools. Expository Reading materials for multiple text complexities are available at www.newsela.com. Registration for NewsELA is free for parents, students, and educators. There are also several clips that are from www.youtube.com that are periodically moved or removed without the seller's knowledge.
