History of Health Care - My Timeline

Critical Thinking with application of Math using graphics is all in this lesson! Learning how to create a medical timeline is essential for healthcare in today's world. Designing a timeline for the history of healthcare is described in this lesson, however this lesson is designed to allow students to create their own (with parent permission) or to create a "mock design" of a medical timeline may work better for classroom use. This will show the "new" way of presenting medical history to your p

Students receive a card with a either a coordinate point or linear equation on it. Then, music is played and students walk around the room as they would in musical chairs, but when the music stops, they have to pair up with another person (a coordinate point person pairs with a linear equation person and vice versa). Once paired, the teacher calls out "PARALLEL" or "PERPENDICULAR." The students then use the given point and line to write an equation that is either parallel or perpendicular to the

Quadratics Scavenger Hunt

This is a fun activity that gets students up out of their seats and moving around the classroom. Students will solve a quadratic and then use their answer to take them to the next place in the room. If they answer all of the questions correctly it should bring them back to their starting position. My kids have fun with this. They like being out of their seats and moving around the room and I hear great discussion about quadratics!

Like Term Activity Whole Class

Print out individual terms that vary by variable, degree, and coefficient. Pass out one term to each student. Ask the class to arrange themselves into "like terms." See what they come up with or give them specific instructions on how to gather in like terms. Once students are in correct groups, ask them to "simplify" themselves by adding. Emphasize to students that coefficients change when adding/subtracting like terms, while the variables and exponents do not.

Factoring Problem Trail

This problem trail is a great way for students to practice factoring while walking around the classroom. The teacher can hang these problems around the classroom in numerical order. Students begin at any number (1-20) with a blank piece of paper. They write the number of the station where they begin, then show any work necessary. They should find their answer, which will send them to their next station. Then, students write the number of this station on their paper and any necessary work. This m
