Using the Incredible 5-Point Scale strategy as a guide (Buron & Curtis, 2003), this chart presents a visual scale which illustrates a behavioral escalation cycle, along with a narrative describing that behavior. It also suggests specific coping strategies students might implement to appropriately respond to their strong feelings. It can be used as a guide for 1-1 or small group behavioral instruction, a visual prompt or as a reference when providing corrective feedback.
