Roles of Citizens in Society Peer Editing Civics Activities Upper Elementary

Language Arts and Social Studies go together like peanut butter and jelly (yum!) in this activity where students will explore the role of citizens in a society, write their own mini-books, and then peer edit each other's work. It's like a two-for-one instructional time special!Your students will participate in three activities on their way to understanding the role of citizens in society.I like to do this over two different days. I do the first activity on the first day, and then the other two.

Help your students follow the steps of the writing process (brainstorm, pre-write, draft, edit, revise, and publish) to create a persuasive letter about the rights and responsibilities of a citizen. Students will use graphic organizers to plan out their persuasive writing. Pairs with the Persuasive Writing Editing Checklist. Could be a great final project or writing element to a civics study on the U.S. Constitution.
