It focuses on nonfiction text features to help students understand what they are and why using them helps them understand the information/text better. Students will learn the purpose of each feature, to identify each feature, and use it to comprehend nonfiction text. An activote is included at the end to assess student learning. This Promethean flipchart introduces non-fiction text features including captions, diagrams, bold & italic print, and many more. The lesson begins with a BrainPop, Jr. video on Reading Non-Fiction (subscription required). The lesson ends with a Text Features Scavenger Hunt where students use magazines and newspapers to find examples of text features and describe how each feature helps readers. The last page is filled with additional text feature resources!
