Economics Ultimate Semester Course Bundle! (Print & Distance Learning!)

Are you teaching Economics for the first time and feeling way over your head? Have you taught it a few times, but feel like you're ready to take your lessons to the next level? This Semester Course Bundle is yours. If I had to sum up my teaching style and the way my units are structured, I would refer to what my students have said. They call my curriculum fun, interesting, challenging, and relevant (many have told me it's the most relevant class they took in their 13 years of school). After all,

Economic Systems & the Zombie Apocalypse Economy (Distance Learning!)

Infusing economics lessons with creativity, critical thinking, and straight up fun is one of my favorite things to do. Every year my students come alive as they imagine a scenario where the zombie apocalypse has finally happened, and out of this ruin they are tasked with building a new economy. I laugh walking around listening to my students figure out how to build infrastructure that will protect them from the zombies while figuring out how to not let their new cities run out of scarce resource

Supply Meets Demand Economics Lesson (Distance Learning!)

I'm Mrs. P and I have a true passion for making Econ engaging. Every year, I love getting to the "Supply Meets Demand" lesson because it's a day full of students going "oh, that makes so much sense!" and "I get why stores do that now!" Gotta love those "a-ha!" moments. It's my philosophy that Economics should be anything but boring- after all, every single part is relevant to students. Watch your students make these connections, get excited, and engage with the material with these awesome lesson

Free Trade & the Global Economy Economics Lesson! (Distance Learning!)

I love teaching about free trade because it’s so current, relevant, and easily applicable to students. And since I’m all about student engagement, seeing students excitedly showing their friends the political cartoon they’re creating about free trade makes me smile. Students can be so creative, witty, and thoughtful when we give them the opportunity- and making political cartoons is a beautiful way to disguise some critical thinking. This lesson will teach your students all about free trade and t

I love student engagement! So when I teach this GDP lesson (& student research activities), I'm thrilled when I hear my students excitedly nudging their friends, saying things like "did you see Liechtenstein's GDP per capita?! Why is it so high?!" I love watching them think critically about a topic that could otherwise be (mis)interpreted as dry. I can't wait for you to see your students come alive as they understand and then research GDP across the world. This lesson will teach your students

Production Possibilities Frontier (PPF) Economics Lesson (Distance Learning!)

Imagine your students are stuck on an island and they must make some pretty tough choices: build a shelter or gather some fruit. Their time is scarce, so they must divide their time wisely. As a one-person economy, they’ve got to produce at maximum capacity to survive. This is the opening activity I use in this lesson on the production possibilities frontier. You see, my philosophy is that students learn best when their interest level is high and their engagement is maximized. In this lesson, yo

Find Economics resources | TPT

If you’re an educator or parent looking for printable or digital resources to help your student learn about economics, TPT has got you covered. We’ve got a comprehensive collection of economics and financial literacy resources available, including activities and lessons on trade, goods and services, and the stock market to name just a few. With plenty of TPT high-quality resources at your fingertips, you’ll be able to teach economics to your students in no time at all.

Economics activities to try

Here are a few examples of the different types of activities and lessons you can find on TPT to help teach students about economics:

Simulation Activities

You can introduce students to the world of investing, budgeting, and other economics-related activities through simulations. For example, have students research companies they want to "invest" in to show them how the stock market works. If you want to extend the lesson, you can have them periodically check in on their portfolios throughout the year to see how their investments are performing. Or, you could use a simulation to teach them about causes that led up to certain major historical events, like the stock market crash of 1929.

Budgeting Exercises

Help students understand the importance of managing their own financial resources by challenging them to create a budget. Give them a few hypothetical scenarios involving income, expenses, and financial goals. For example, you could ask them to plan a fictional character's monthly expenses, or have them create a budget to save for buying a house.

Trade Games

Through trading games, students can learn about importing and exporting, along with the impact of external forces and trade agreements. Ask students to work in teams and have them trade goods, record their imports and exports, and respond to charges (like tariffs and embargoes).

Cost-Benefit Analysis

Give students a real-world decision to make (e.g., building a new road, investing in a new technology, or buying property) and have them perform a cost-benefit analysis. To deepen the learning, you can ask them to justify their decisions with evidence.
