Interactive Attendance for Smartboard
This attendance sheet for the Smartboard uses sandals and a bucket. As students enter the classroom they drag their sandals into the bucket so we can easily see who is absent. To change the names under the sandals simply click on the picture, click the arrow, click 'ungroup' and then delete the name that is already there. Centers/Stations Template
This is a very handy organizer and visual to use when doing centers in your classroom. I got the idea from my mentoring teacher and brought it to my classroom last year. Since ELA is such a complex class and often concentrated to fit the 90 minute time frame, I break my centers up into 3 days. That allows the students to get more time in each center. I spend the last 30 minutes of class doing 2 rounds of 15 minutes, but you can set the timer as you please.

Landscape with the Fall of Icarus - Notebook File
After viewing the Jim Henson Storyteller's version of the Daedalus and Icarus myth, students view Bruegel's painting "Landscape of the Fall of Icarus" (although some experts now doubt that the painting was created by Bruegel...) and read the poem by William Carlos Williams inspired by the painting. This activity is part of a unit on Greek mythology and also includes a Smartboard file with the painting and some basic questions included to generate discussion.
