I used this as a quick interactive review of the lit terms used on the AP exam. Just cut out the terms and definitions and mix them up. Students then have to match the correct term to the correct definition. This format is easy for you to adapt to your needs. Change out the terms and definitions to fit whatever your students are focusing on for the current unit. You can have students work in groups, pairs, or individually. I’ve made it into a competition before too. I then can have the studen

I had my AP Lit students keep an ongoing annotated glossary of literary terms throughout the year. This helped them not only identify the terms needed for the AP exam but it also helped them understand the importance of them within a passage or poem. What I felt helped students the most with this activity was that it lends itself to teaching students how to write strong paragraphs using the “three C’s” which are explained in the activity. I would have my students highlight each element of the "

This is a power point designed to help students with SAT level vocabulary. Each slide contains an SAT level word with its definition and the part of speech. It is set up so one new word is reviewed and taught each day for a nine week period. This allows you to incorporate vocabulary every day. It only takes a few minutes to discuss and review each word. This can also be used with GATE students in order to enrich lessons.

Mystery Word Puzzle

A great puzzle activity to do for morning work. Fill in the boxes with the letters of a mystery word (I frequently use vocabulary words) and have the students try to rearrange the letters to find the mystery word. This is a great way to work in prefixes, suffixes, inflected endings, etc.

I use this list in conjunction with my Greek and Latin Roots dinner menu. I hand both documents out at the beginning of the year and post them on our website as well. Students complete a menu of activities and submit at the end of each month. They must submit their dinner menu in order to take the test--and yes- tests are cumulative! :) Of course, you're welcome to do it any way you like. The document is a editable for your use. Hope you enjoy! Let me know if I can help in any way!
