Your students will be asked to practice their iambic pentameter skills in a fun way!

High School English Getting to Know You Activity with Sandra Cisnero's "My Name"
This lesson plan was created as a way to get to know students on the first day of school. I composed a paragraph about my own name that I give to students, but teachers should change this to be about themselves. It’s a nice way to create comfort in the English classroom and get to know your students.

Rhetoric Song Analysis Assignment
I did a lesson on rhetoric with my students and to get them introduced to the topic, we analyzed songs. Students chose songs to decipher how rhetoric was being used in a three part assignment of choosing the songs, answering questions about the songs, and preparing for a Socratic Seminar where they would all share as a group about the songs they chose. The House on Mango Street - "My Name" pre-activity
This assignment can be done as a bell ringer or independent in-class assignment to segue into the students writing their own "My Name" vignette.
