I've found that students are not wearing their hearing aids "during all waking hours" as advised by their personal audiologists. This reward chart takes the stress off of parents to push their children to keep their hearing aids in. I have included a basic checklist for when to wear (and when to take off) hearing aids. It can be used for cochlear implants as well. I have included instructions for home use. The parents I have given it to have had at least a 50% increase in hearing aid use at

Social Story: A stranger is someone that I don't know

This is a simple social story that was developed upon a parent's request for a preschool student. She was walking up to people in public that she didn't know, and starting a conversation. So, I developed this social story, read it to the student at school, and then sent it home with her mother. She read it to her daughter each time before they went out in public. She

Parent Intro to Stuttering Therapy

It is amazing how much inaccurate information parents receive about stuttering. Mostly from the internet, but also from pediatricians! Many of them still believe that their 10-year-old will “grow out” of stuttering. Some think that they caused their child to stutter, and others believe that it is purely a problem of confidence. Needless to say, parent education is a huge part of the job. This one-page introduction summarizes the causes of stuttering, explains the multidimensional nature of the d

The lowest possible score on this rubric is currently set as a 76, since I feel like students who put in the work should get a good score. There is also a place for both teachers and parents to put in notes. One way to implement this would be for parents and teachers to grade the student separately and then average their scores together. Alternatively, the parents can simply use the rubric
