This is a strategy that I learned about awhile ago, but needed some way to explain it to parents so that they can use the same strategy at home. Students can keep this handout in their math journals to reference and it's also a nice go-to for classroom teachers who may have not heard of this strategy before! Moving from Remainders to Decimal Quotients
This is an interactive notebook entry we used about what to do when you are using long division, and you get a reminder. It shows (using color coded directions) how to add a decimal and zeros, and gives directions about how far to take it out. For our class scholars divide until the quotient ends, or they find a repeating decimal, or in the case of an irrational quotient, they hit 3 decimal places. This document would be very easy to edit for your own class needs.
