Classroom Checklist- Student Self Monitoring

Created by
ML SLP
This is a checklist was created to keep students on task. It allows students to self monitor their behaviors in the classroom while staying on task and eliminating distractions. The students can use it to check what they should be doing at that time and the teacher/therapist can use it to point to the desired task without disrupting the class. I usually print this task card on bright paper so that it stands out to the studen.

You will love these multifunctional cards that use the basic exercises kids need to be fit and strong! These 90 activity cards each have the following: - Name of the exercise - A picture showing how to do the exercise - How many reps or seconds to hold a stretch First I laminate the cards and I divide them into four groups (upper body, muscle movement, flexibility and lower body). I post the cards on the white board and as the students enter the gym they look on the board and then complete the

STOP & Break Cards I created these cards to be a nonverbal cue for the teacher or paraeducator, to give a student to stop what they are doing and make a better choice. Also included are cards to indicate to students if they have earned a break. I have used these in my special education classroom when student must work for a set amount of time to earn a break. They could use the break immediately, or save it to use with other cards for a longer break. A third card in this set is I need a b

Cooperative Learning Groups Poster

This is a Cooperative Learning Groups Poster aimed at groups of four. You can use whatever symbols you would like to represent each group member (I use pictures of characters from the Big Bang Theory), so pull in something you share with the class! I was able to use the poster machine at my school to enlarge this, laminate it and place it on wall. You can adjust the size as well as I am listing it as a WORD document so you can adjust the groups to fit the needs of your class.

Early Finishers Task Cards

Do you have students who work really fast and then come ask you that ridiculous question, "What do we do when we have finished everything?" Well worry no more, just make it a routine to go to the basket with all of these cards and have them select a card and write their answer on the back using a dry erase card and then turn it back in. If they get it right, they get a prize, if not then the card returns to the basket to be attempted next time.

Collaborative Group Roles- Role Card Tents

These card tents are designed to be folded and sit on students desk in the shape of a tent. One side of the tent is labeled with a group role (ex. Leader). The other side identifies the following: responsibilities of the assigned role, challenges of fulfilling the role, and a list of other group roles essential to work with in the group dynamic. The tents come in a set of four and is ideal for groups of four. Bigger or smaller groups can still be formed by sharing or dividing the roles. Print on

Generic Exit slips / tickets out the door. Summarizing Applying or Reflecting

Exit slips are used to help students summarize and reflect on the concepts they just learned about in class. They help the students and the teacher identify if the student has completely mastered the information or needs another lesson to master the content. It is easy for a teacher to implement exit slips to determine if the class as a whole got a key concept or idea, or if they did not. It would also be useful for choosing students who need intervention if the majority of the class seems to

Checklist for completing assignments

I created this for my high school students because they continually asked questions or said they could not complete an assignment without listening to the directions or reading the directions. This is an easy to follow checklist they can complete individually before asking the teacher for help. I can be changed or adapted to fit any student's needs and can be used with any age.

Kay Brimijoin, associate professor of education at Sweet Briar College in Virginia, developed the ThinkDots strategy. It is a great way to differentiate your instruction. This template allows for three different sets of double-sided cards and three different sets of single-sided cards. After you have created your differentiated activities and assembled the cards, here is how to use them. Give each student or pair of students a set of the ThinkDots cards and one die. Students roll the die an

Classroom Participation: Brownie Points

Brownie Points are not bonus points. They are required class participation points that students must get each week for actively participating in class. Students must track their own tasks and turn in a BP log every Friday. (Teachers initial the forms as needed--I try to do it at the end of class when students are writing journal entries. In fact, they keep their logs in their journals). Tasks and point values (and any limits) are easy to manipulate in order to highlight those you feel are m

I have created a template to help organize students' usernames and passwords for various computer programs that they use in the classroom. I have included a cover, which would be an excellent accent for a blue/green, ocean themed, or under the sea themed classroom. You could print these on card stock and make them into a booklet and store near student computers, or you could have students glue these into their notebooks. I hope these will help to keep your students organized while they work on

Teachers in middle school classrooms truly have to pick their battles. A never-ending battle I have seen over the years is kids saying mean things to each other. Instead of writing a referral every time a student calls another student stupid, dumb, retard, b%#*&, or homo (sorry for the strong language, but we all know it happens), I have them pull a kindness card instead. Once I hear a student say something mean to another student, I simply point to where the kindness cards hang on my wal
