The Great Debaters Viewing Guide

This movie is a must in my public speaking class. I use this movie to preface our debate unit as well as to demonstrate how public speaking is not just a required course, but a useful tool that can motivate and inspire people. Viewing guide includes comprehension questions surrounding the movie's action as well as objective-based questions (summary, text structure, etc.). Such a great resource for any public speaking class or unit. This movie relates to the civil rights movement as well.

Film Questions: The King's Speech

The 2010 film, "The King's Speech", is a wonderful enrichment activity to accompany a Speech course or public speaking unit in an English course. Students should complete the questions while watching the film. Questions are the order they come up in the movie. After watching the movie and answering all questions, use the film guide as jumping off point for a discussion on glossophobia (fear of public speaking) and the role of public speaking in leadership and history.
