Occasionally as part of a unit on personal narrative, I treat students to a viewing of "Homeward Bound." I find that asking students to take notes during a film is incredibly helpful at keeping them focused and reminding them that they are responsible for information in the movie. Because these notes are largely focused on elements of a personal narrative essay, they would be a great addition to any unit focused on narrative. However, they could also be used for a good, old-fashioned movie day.
