This assignment was created for my 9th grade Literature and Composition class when we read the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The assignment breaks down how the journal will be graded. It gives students a list of topics for students to respond to in a double entry type journal. My students used composition notebooks to keep their responses in. This chart requires students to identify and analyze the effect of figurative language used in chapter four of The Great Gatsby. Annotation Poster
This is a printable page meant to hang on the wall or be added into a student's journal or interactive notebook. These are the steps for annotating that I have found to be helpful with my students, especially when they have never attempted to annotate before. I usually pair this with a mini-lesson and an "I do, we do, you do" on a short story or article to demonstrate the steps.
