Inspiration Vital Capacity Using an Incentive Spirometer
This is a hands-on lab that measures student lung volume. It tends to make students aware of how much their lungs are affected by vaping, smoking, second hand smoking, etc. I have had students weep when they realize their lung volume is merely 500 cc when it should be 2500-3000 cc. It uses an incentive spirometer that can be purchased online with coin filler paper wraps as makeshift mouth pieces.

Virtual Blood Typing Lab
This is a fun lab for students where they take a sample of blood from a patient, determine the patient's blood type and then transfuse the patient by selecting 3 bags of blood that will not agglutinate with the patient's blood.

Names of Muscles
This activity lists the names of nineteen (19) muscles in Latin/Greek such as Gluteus Maximus and requires students to identify whether the muscle was named for its size, shape, function, location, or point of attachment. It also requires students to include an image of the muscle and finally to identify a physical activity or sport that could work that specific muscle. It is 2 pages in length but will keep students busy for two periods or two days.

Students discover the animal kingdom by creating a phylogenetic tree filled with 9 different phyla and 16 characteristics. Immune Infoquest
This lesson is designed to take students on an exploratory quest through the lines of defense for the immune system. It is interactive and includes hands-on manipulatives to help students better visualize the steps of the immune response. I wrote this for my high school anatomy/physiology class as a 2-day lesson and it was a major success. Height Estimation from Bone Length
This is an activity where students use tape measures to measure their height in cm. Then measure the length of their femur, humerus, and radius and use math and STEM skills to plug those measurements into formulas that are gender specific and racially specific as well to determine which of those bones provided the best estimation of their height.
