This is a great writing activity to include during a study of Anglo-Saxon poetry, or any poetry unit in general. The activity provides a clear definition of an elegy in addition to links to six different examples, some Anglo-Saxon, some classic, and some modern songs. Guidelines are then given for several different types of elegies (narrative, rhyming, free verse, and song). Finally, guiding questions will assist students in brainstorming elegies of their own.
