Since ELA is such a complex class and often concentrated to fit the 90 minute time frame, I break my centers up into 3 days. That allows the students to get more time in each center. After viewing the Jim Henson Storyteller's version of the Daedalus and Icarus myth, students view Bruegel's painting "Landscape of the Fall of Icarus" (although some experts now doubt that the painting was created by Bruegel...) and read the poem by William Carlos Williams inspired by the painting. This activity is part of a unit on Greek mythology and also includes a Smartboard file with the painting and some basic questions included to generate discussion.
