This Google Slides presentation offers a first read of Annabelle Lee by Edgar Allan Poe. You and your students will read it silently, then listen to it aloud, discussing the differences. Then, students will analyze the poem for poetic elements (figurative language, rhyme, etc.). This assignment is included and is linked in the presentation. Choose one sentence from your class's shared reading to focus on each week. Students keep the paper at their desks and pull it out each day to work on that sentence. This is a great way to get students writing like the authors we read. Instead of fixing mistakes, they focus on mimicking great writing. I always try to choose a sentence that ties in with our grammar focus for the week. Print on colored paper so student won't loose throughout the week!
