Mentor Sentences Form - Weekly
Choose one sentence from your class's shared reading to focus on each week. Students keep the paper at their desks and pull it out each day to work on that sentence. This is a great way to get students writing like the authors we read. Instead of fixing mistakes, they focus on mimicking great writing. I always try to choose a sentence that ties in with our grammar focus for the week. Print on colored paper so student won't loose throughout the week!

This series of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) resources was born out of a desire for SWBAT statements that could easily be posted in my own classroom. While I completely understood and appreciated the importance of daily posting student learning goals (SWBAT or “I Can” statements), I have to admit that I wished I could reclaim the time spent writing them on the board.
