Very easy media project that needs very little planning:
1 class lesson + 1 work period

1) Brainstorm with students the possible stereotypes that exist in media (Tv, movies, video games, news, etc.) and how they portray different groups (ex. race, religion, sex, aboriginal status, abilty, age, etc.)
2a) Discuss as a class how young african american men are often shown in the media. Then, show the youtube video attached.
2b) Discuss as a class how women wearing hijab

Principles of Design Notes and Worksheet
This is a copy of the notes I give my students when we study the Principles of Design. It can be used as a handout or an outline for a lecture or giving notes.
We focus on contrast, emphasis, balance, unity, pattern, rhythm, and movement. In addition to the notes, a worksheet is included for students to sketch an artwork (from a famous artist or from your classroom) and write about how the artist uses the Principles of Design.
