A sentence must end with punctuation. Not every sentence ends with a period. Using punctuations makes writing easier to read. With this activity, students will be focusing on understanding when to use a period, a question mark, and an exclamation point. Included is a slide to introduce the lesson’s objective. The what? Friendship Pie Activity

Many students rush through their writing, telling the story without detail. This Smartboard lesson will allow the teacher to compare and contrast weak writing and strong writing through the lens of "Show, Not Tell." This is a Notebook file that describes the 5 stages of writing in student friendly terms. The stages included are:
1. Prewriting
2. Drafting
3. Revising - with A.R.M.S. acronym
4. Editing - with C.U.P.S acronym

Each stage features its own page in the file. The final page provides a graphic organizer for students and teachers to track student progress through the stages of writing.

Same or Different? September
To promote English language proficiency and higher order thinking, I created a short daily activity in which students name 2 items and collaborate with partner to discuss how the objects are the same or are different. The file is for the SMARTBoard and requires Notebook software to be used.
I use the activity in a think-pair-share structure. The kids are interested and blow me away with their thinking sometimes! Check back for the proceeding months soon!

Interactive White Board Lesson for Writing
Great way to introduce poetry, the 4 types of sentences, rhyme, humor and parody.
Students will use the poem What If by Shel Silverstein to create their own What If Poem.
