Junk Food Activity
"Whats in your food?" junk food activity is used during a Nutrition unit. Students will have the opportunity to calculate how many teaspoons of fat are in common foods that they eat. With this hands-on activity students can visually see the amount of fat and sugar in their foods using real sugar and Crisco as fat. At the bottom of the document, the directions are translated in Spanish for English Language Learners.

Scale Project: Applying Rates
This is a project-based learning experience in which students will use their knowledge of ratios and rates to create a 3-D model of their classroom. I have used this project in my classroom for several years with great success. It is also a nice show-case project for curriculum fairs, open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and etc. This lesson plan is developed using WICOR strategies. HOT questions are included.
Unit Brownies
This lab challenges students to use unit conversion to calculate the correct amount of ingredients for baking brownies.
