The Decimal Song
A few years ago, I had a conversation with students that led me to realize that many of them lack a basic understanding of the concept of a decimal (ie. it works like a fraction- it is less than one, or part of a whole).
That led to me working this song into my math program. It is simple and catchy and hammers the point home, so that they won't (can't!) forget it. I used it as an introduction into decimals because it pumps up a unit that can otherwise get a bit dry.

Need a cute song for a Thanksgiving or Grandparent's Day assembly/gathering? This one will need some practice, but after hearing the tune a few times beforehand and holding up signs with the lyrics in front of them, my third graders nailed it! Gracias a La Vida
The song "Gracias a la vida" by Violetta Parra sung by Mercedes Sosa is one of my favorites. I used the lyrics to create a CLOZE activity where the students fill in the blanks while listening to the song. I also included a brief biography of Sosa in the PAST TENSE so it is better aimed at advanced 1st years or 2 year students. I used it for Thanksgiving.
