Math Poems To Practice Multiplication Facts
These poems can be used with students in grades K-8 to highlight and enhance learning on a variety of math topics. I believe that children learn best through various modes of learning. These poems will be great to use as an overview for what you will be studying or as a review of previously learned concepts. Poems can be chanted or sung. Why can children learn all the words to a song, but they cannot remember basic math facts? This original rap or chant teaches children the doubles math facts from 1+1 to 10 + 10 and helps them commit these facts to memory! Kids love to chant and rap. Doubles Song / Doubling Rhyme / Multiplication / Two Times Table
I wrote this rhyme to help second and third-graders memorize their doubles facts. While they often could double 1-5 with ease, they tended to get mixed up with the products of 6, 7, 8 and 9 when multiplied by two. After "singing" this enough times, I could hear my students whispering the lines to themselves when doing computations! Eventually, as with anything that we memorize, they needed to refer to the rhyme less and less, and eventually it was committed to memory.

2 Digit X 2 Digit Multiplication Rap
This is a rap that outlines the steps in solving a 2 digit X 2 digit multiplication problem. My students love rapping it with an instrumental rap track off of YouTube. They remember the process much more effectively when they are able to set the learning to music.

Analog Clock Song
To the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot" this song helped my students for the past two years (since I wrote it) to remember which hands do what on an analog clock. I write it up on plain white butcher paper with the spoken part a different color than the song. I use a black marker to draw analog clocks around it.

Division Chant
My students always had a hard time remembering the difference between Divisor, Dividend, and Quotient so I came up with this chant they love to do. When I draw the long division symbol we call it the house. We talk about who is the visitor (divisor), who is in the house (dividend), and who is on the roof (quotient). After the first line they should knock on their desk three times to make the chant sound real.

Teach Me How To Times It (To The Tune of "Teach Me How to Dougie")
Last year teaching multiplication I had an active class of boys who LOVE to do the Dougie! I wrote a song for them about multiplicaiton and tried to use as much vocabulary as I could. The chorus is just skip counting (after we did 2's I just changed it to 5's, 10's, then 3's, etc) and they loved it.
