In this Unit, students examine how Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young’s “Ohio,” Merle Haggard’s “Okie From Muskogee” and Edwin Starr’s “War” articulated the divisive feelings Americans had about the war in the late 1960s and early 1970s. To supplement these songs, students will also watch clips from CNN Soundtracks and analyze polling data, news articles, and photographs from the era. By the end of the unit, students will know seminal events during the Vietnam War, including the Gulf of Tonkin Reso

Many of my students were struggling with learning and recognizing the differences between the six nonfiction text structures. So, I rewrote Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" to include information about cause and effect, question and answer, description, problem and solution, compare and contrast, and chronological order/sequence. Enjoy! Also, I changed "I.G.G.Y." to M.U.L.E because our school mascot is the mule. You could change that part to any four letter word or team you'd like.

The song that I used is full of double meanings (double entendre). I've made this digital copy to also reach my online students. In years past, the students have loved to talk about this song!

The idea of this activity is to discuss love as friends and love as a couple. To begin with, students watch the video of the song "El tesoro" by El mato a un policia motorizado, a contemporary Argentinean band. It is important that they watch the linked video (click on the image) and not the original video of the band, so as not to "spoil" the answers. During the video, they can write down all the words they don't understand. It is also possible to print out the song to go with the video. After

This is a cloze activity (fill in the blank lyrics) for Del Castillo's Corazón Loco. They're an Austin-based band. This is one of their very traditional Tex-Mex songs. It's a good activity for Valentine's Day or any day you have an extra 5-10 minutes at the end of class or could serve as a fun warm up listening activity as well. Link to the song on You Tube is included. Check out all their songs at www.delcastillomusic.com
