Kindergarten Graduation Poem to perform or include in written program

Kindergarten graduation is such an exciting time in a child's life. This poem is great to use as a performance with multiple children or whole classes. The alternate ending makes it kind of fun to use for first year kindergarten teachers and is unexpected when read aloud. It has 6 stanzas that can be divided up to be said/read separately, or chorally. Very loved poem by the parents at our graduations!!! And when the kids shout “ME!” at the end, the audience loves it!This also works as a poe

"The Planets of the Solar System" Song is a science song that teaches the planets of our solar system, and that the name of the star in the system is the sun. Sung to the tune of "The 12 Days of Christmas" students can sing it as "8 planets of the Solar System" with Neptune as the last. Plus I put in a verse that Pluto is a dwarf planet. I also made it so you can sing it as "9 Planets of the Solar System" with Neptune as the next to the last, and Pluto last, just in case your curriculum sti

Many of my students were struggling with learning and recognizing the differences between the six nonfiction text structures. So, I rewrote Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" to include information about cause and effect, question and answer, description, problem and solution, compare and contrast, and chronological order/sequence. Enjoy! Also, I changed "I.G.G.Y." to M.U.L.E because our school mascot is the mule. You could change that part to any four letter word or team you'd like.

I hope you will enjoy this as much as my students have. I compiled a list of songs popular during the time I was growing up in the 1960's and 1970's. Students analyze the lyrics to answer Common Core-friendly comprehension questions. Afterwards, they listen and watch 1-2 videos of the song. For most songs, there is one video with just lyrics and one with the actual artist performing. The links to all the songs are at the end of the file. If you come across a link that is broken, please let me k

Chromosome Song (Telephone by Lady Gaga Parody)

This song, a parody of Telephone by Lady Gaga, can be used to introduce new vocabulary and processes, or at the middle/end of a unit to put everything together. When using, I had students sing it first (or read along while I sang terribly), so we could work on word pronunciation. Then we would underline key words and processes. On the second page, we would go through and illustrate (in guided form if some of the words were new, or independent/with a partner if most of the content had been cove

One of the best ways to have students learn a new concept or/and vocabulary is through songs and chants. The rhythmic beat and familiar tune are ways students memorize and understand new concepts. This is particularly useful when introducing and a new science unit. Along with my Life Cycle Big Book, these songs and chants are a great addition.
