I can’t seem to stop singing this song! For years I’ve used a fun little Problem Solving Song, but this year a certain Two-Year Old with a certain affection for a certain movie (DAILY) got me hooked on this heart warming tune.
This problem solving song works with any kind of math word problems. I've even been known to use it for other content areas!

This is a great activity for encouraging growth mindset and the power of yet in your classroom. After watching Sesame Street's "The Power of Yet" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLeUvZvuvAs and discussing as a class, students complete the activity sheet. I often get them to brainstorm some strategies they could use to help them achieve their goal to add to the bottom or back of the sheet.Enjoy :)

The Seven Step Strategy for Solving Word Problems
I created this strategy for my third grade students when I noticed that they continued to experience difficulties solving word problems, even after strategies from the math program had been taught and practiced. The Seven Step Strategy includes a song to help students remember the strategy AND can be used on pretty much every word problem! My students experienced much more success in understanding and solving word problems after I presented the Seven Step Strategy.
