Perimeter and Area Real World Task
This task asks students to pretend they have been hired by a home improvement company to solve two problems for them. The first job requires students to examine the relationship between perimeter and area to help "Mr. Baker" design his garden. The second job focuses students on applying their understanding of area to help a family tile their kitchen. Let me know if you like it and I will upload some more tasks.

Planning a Valentine Party: Project Based Learning
Engage your students in relevant math with a Valentine theme. Students use price sheets and quantities to plan for and budget for a Valentine Party. They also use measurement conversion skills to plan for decorations for the party. Time is also integrated into this project as students plan for party activities. Water Jug Bomb Defusal is a great task to get students thinking and working in math teams to solve a fun problem. See how many solutions your students can come up with. My own students really enjoyed this task. An explosive (and positively cinematic!) good time for a Thinking Classroom. Enjoy!

Intro to CAD - Measuring a 3d Print model with Calipers and then Model it in CAD
This assignment is to be used early in a CAD class. Seek out the STL file to 3d print a sample model for students to measure with a caliper. They will learn how to take and record measurements. The second task is to recreate this model in CAD. Files for the STL and CAD model are on Thingiverse, which is linked on page 2.

Estimate and Measure with Bites!
Students will use food to get a hands-on experience with estimating and measuring. Students will first take a chip (or pretzel) and estimate the length. When recorded, they will then use their ruler to measure the chip. After everything is written, students will take a (small!) bite of the chip, and repeat the process.
