A project we enjoy doing is combining Japanese Ukiyo-e prints with haiku poetry. A Ukiyo-e print is a traditional woodblock print depicting everyday life in 17th -19th century Japan. A haiku is a Japanese poem comprised of 3 lines. We like the sophistication of this project because it exposes students to greater cultural awareness and introduces them to more complex ideas and techniques, both in the visual arts and language arts. This video provides a bit of history on Mandalas as well as general tips getting started painting the Mandala. I use chip board and acrylic paint in this video. It's okay quality, a bit older than my other videos, but shows how to mix color as well other student examples.
