Scaling Up Candy Bar Project - Scale Factor Project
In this project, the students will use scale factor to enlarge a candy wrapper. The final project will include an enlarged colored candy wrapper along with follow-up questions about the project. They will also have to solve a series of problems involving scale factor. If they finish early, there is an extension to the project that involves using the scale factor with the nutritional information. *I would recommend to create your own centimeter grid paper.

Cereal Box Biography Project - Black History Month or any biography
This is a Black History Biography project which required my students to create a new cereal based on the life on a famous African American. The students had to design a cereal box to tell the story of the person they chose. They had to include things like a cereal name that relates to the person, a picture of the person, a timeline of the person's life, character traits of the person, and a written report of the biography they read about the person. My own students had a blast with this project.

Surface Area Project: Rectangular Solids and Cylinders
Students will bring in a box (and cylinder) from home and use it to find surface area (using 2 different methods), volume and to create a net. Students will also review measurement and use appropriate units (squared and cubed).

This is an activity I used to reinforce fraction operations in my 6th grade math class. The students created a class recipe book by each bringing in three of their favorite recipes. They had to include a list of ingredients, as well as instructions for doubling, tripling, or halving the recipe. They had a lot of fun designing their book covers and pages, adding in cooking tips and kitchen advice, and assembling the class book. They each received a copy to take home- and many of them brought

Marble Roller Coaster Activity
Building and designing a marble roller coaster.
This is a great activity for motion and forces for middle and high school students.
Students use foam pipe insulation to design a roller coaster with hills, a loop and a curve.
Students must problem solve to overcome the forces of gravity and centripetal forces to get a marble to the end of the track.
Students also measure and calculate speed and acceleration at different points within the roller coaster.

Dream House Project - Geometry/Measurement
This is a good project to bring in real life models to review geometry as well as measurement for perimeter and area. I use this closer to the end of the year and give students multiple weeks to finish assignment.
