The Giver by Lois Lowry Creative Writing Assessment/ Activity
After or during THE GIVER novel study, engage in a memory writing activity. This has worked wonderfully for me in the past. Students view images, brainstorm about their favorite memories, engage with family about their memories and play with visuals. Danny the Champion of the World Visualization Exercise
Teach students the connection between what a good writer needs to do and what a good reader needs to do. A good writer needs to plant a picture in our head when we read by using precise language and phrases. A good reader needs to create the visual picture in their heads. Students will read passages from Roald Dahl's- Danny the Champion of the World and then will DRAW what they see in their head as they read the passage. Students will then compare their visualization pictures.
