This lesson synopsis is a twist to the penny boat experiment. In this lesson, students will be able to integrate Math, Science , Reading, Writing and use discussion techniques in this fun Engineering Design Science lesson. The teacher will provide students with the opportunity to read about the impact of global warming on penguins. Students will have an opportunity to help penguins reach their food faster with a penguin boat.

This is a basic template for a "Scientific Journal" where students aged 3-6 can track the growth of a plant (my experiment was done using lima beans, but I am sure many other plants would apply as well. The children tracked the growth each day and finally bound their pages using a 3 hole puncher and yarn to make their very own book at the completion of the experiment. They were thrilled to see their finished products in the form of a "real book." I have included a sample I used for my pre-writer
